Namaste Citizens Discontented with Townhall

Another town hall was held recently, and most citizens are in agreement that it was extremely boring. The issues discussed were trivial and pointless, and the only thing that was achieved was making most citizens want to kill themselves. A long discussion ensued on the subject of a proposed “tax” bill that wasn’t even passed! “It technically is a tax, but we worded it poorly.” -Matthew Tam. Many people were disgusted by the shocking admission of the government’s own incompetence. “If the government is split on the subject of taxes, then maybe we should start a charity,” Amanda said. Unfortunately, no one liked that idea at all, and the discussion quickly moved on. At one point Matthew said: “The citizens are greedy for nothing, basically.” “That’s a little sketch,” said an anonymous source. Matthew also brought up the fact that he was very unhappy with the judicial system. “Should we just not have a judge?” Matthew said, implying that the judge position shouldn’t even exist. Later on, a new Judge was appointed, Andres Rodriguez. “Rodriguez sounds a little bit too Mexican to be a reliable judge,” said an anonymous source. Keep in mind that is no reflection on the views of the author of this article.

Things eventually started to heat up once the subject of a new refugee was brought up. Despite the fact that the citizens voted for her to be kicked out of the country, the very same Andres Rodriguez decided to let her live on his dime. “What a slimy little Mexican,” said an anonymous source.

More Privatizations, Less Limitations

Written by: Nailah Jamal

Location: Guelph, ON

In the nation of Namaste, citizens are very varied in their emotions and progress in the game. Few report to be progressing well, with minimal deduction of status/well-being points. Many citizens answered with negative connotations. After taking a short survey, it was shockingly revealed that 66% of citizens were living with less than 20 well-being points. However, a man who some believe to be a convict, is doing quite well. With the 3rd highest amount of status points and being in the top 5 richest people in Namaste, is Liam, our former prime minister. Many citizens are angry and unsupportive of the new laws. An individual who has a considerably large amount of money, says the government is “repressing hardworking people”. Probably referring to the new law that involves taking money from the rich to give to the poor to diminish the wealth gap. Another citizen says the government is “stealing”. Since the new law promoting more government ownership has been passed, many businesses have been taken into government possession from citizens. Residents say the government is “using their power to control everything”. A commoner who says the government has too many rules and restrictions is fighting for the idea of “more privatization, less limitations”. If more citizens join this cause, daily life in Namaste could get a little interesting. A particular individual is grieving a loss of their family member, and can’t forget a statement made by the government earlier; a government member said that “people have to die this year”. This could be thought as a form of apathy, as this person is not taking into account how hard it is to lose a member of the family, and how much it affects the individual’s life. Overall, there are many mixed emotions about the country’s functionality among citizens. Stay tuned to find out what happens in the following week in the country of Namaste.

Humanitarian Dictatorship For Those Actually Involved In Springland

Written by: Alex Aaby

Lately in Springland a new constitution was verified by the people that allowed government absolute power, in exchange for giving the citizens most their human needs, renewing the EI hex, and satisfying many of the hidden agendas besides socialist. This all turned out great until 75% of the population did not accept their trades or consume their human needs products. Essentially through this, the citizens committed suicide. What drastic actions will the government take in order to make the citizens make the 5 keystrokes it takes to survive in Civic Mirror? We’ll have to see.

Swage Littered With Corruption As The Prime Minister Destroys The Country

Written by: Francis Mcgee

Simulated Country: Swage

Location: Calgary, AB

As we hit the turn of the century, Swage experienced its first taste of democracy which now seems to be a bitter one. As the election rolled on and voting stations were set up, the people of Swage resorted to bitter partisan lines to try to justify their votes and their parties. As the Right wing “Right Party” used corrosive language to pit people against each other to their advantage, the left-leaning “Paper Towel Party (PTP)” tried to bring people together. But in the end with a close election (with some allegations of fraud) the Right party won a minority government with one vote. As time marched on the Right Party repeatedly tried to destroy democracy by forcing the government to be the jury, forcibly amending the PTP re-election clause to a later and later date. And then just as they seized power they nationalized all hexes keeping the money for the government officials leaving none for the people. Then they broke their own law which prohibited extra food consumption by consuming 5 food while they complained about other people eating too much food.

Many voices for change have been crushed by the “Right Parties” fierce censorship and propaganda campaign, stepping on the right to free speech under Swages constitution. The “Right Party” also repeatedly claimed to have made laws that were in fact made by the PTP, but then they go the extra mile and destroy these laws promoting equality and better economic conditions. SWAGE NEEDS CHANGE NOW, THE OPPRESSIVE RIGHT PARTY DESTROYS FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS WHILE MURDERING THEIR OWN INNOCENT CIVILIANS.

FOR THE PEOPLE OF SWAGE!

Scandals and corruption exists in many countries, however, in a country run by teenagers, it is bound to occur frequently. In Hexicos, it was found that secret alliances and conspiracies almost tore the country apart. The prime minister’s money making scheme wherein after being impeached, he transferred all the government’s money and property to his own account. The E.I owner’s plan to build a farm and starve the citizens until he gets the money he desires. And the apartment owner’s plan to not power his apartment until he gets sky high prices were all conspiracies that occurred in Hexicos within a span of two days. Stay tuned to see what happens next.

Killer(s) On The Loose In The Futo Republic!

Written by: Matthew Kerridge

Simulated Country: Futo Republic

Instructor: Ms. Sam Souannhaphanh
Location: Ottawa, ON

During the last trading day something truly evil occurred in the Futo Republic a person starved to death, because of the negligence of one or both of the food hex’s owners. One or both of the food hex’s owners let one or multiple citizens buy multiple food units from them. Our country has 24 citizens one of which never shows up to class, we also have 24 units when trading day starts, so logically everyone who shows up to class should get one food unit yet this is not the case as one of our citizen’s family member starved to death. The government has put in no effort to find these citizens, and one of the food hex’s owner Andi went on record saying that he will not show anyone his sales log; so as of this moment we still have citizens who have committed murder on the loose.

Pros and Cons Regarding Democracy in Toehio

Student Recalls Lessons About Democracy in Her Simulated Country

Written by: Arin Olson

Simulated Country: Toehio
School: Shabazz-city High
Instructor: Mr. Aaron Kaio
Location: Madison, WI

The day I learned the most I could about democracy was on a sunny day in April, the exact date I don’t know, the most I can remember is that we had a good deal of important things to do but got none of it done, because everybody spent the class time arguing about a previous trial. My names is Arin Olson and I’ve been a student at Shabazz for roughly 2 years, and I have never come about a class as hectic as the Civics Mirrors class. The class has been slow moving, loud, full of useless arguments and exciting trials and it did teach me a very important lesson, the lesson that democracy doesn’t work by itself.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is that nothing ever gets done quickly or peacefully. There are arguments about trials and laws and rules and arguments about those arguments and even arguments about past arguments. This drastically slows down the country’s governing process, which makes things much more difficult for people. Every one has to have a say in everything, even when it doesn’t involve them, and the government gives people too much freedom in how the country works, especially unqualified people who shouldn’t have any say in the government.

Another thing is that there are too many people in the government, it’s a jumbled up mess of different branches and sub-branches and sects and parties of the government. All these different parties and divisions and branches waste too much time arguing between each other and looking over various laws and bills that it slows everything down. To get a single bill approved it has to go through at least three different branches of legislations and votings and even then it won’t get approved if the president doesn’t like it.

The only redeeming quality about democracy is that it gives everyone an equal chance at deciding their country’s fate, even ordinary citizens. But at the same time this freedom and equality can be a double-edged sword. Too many people misuse their rights

Revolution Starting in Springland

Written by: Nathan M.

Simulated Country: Springland
School: College Place Middle School
Instructor: Ms. Lisa Shearer
Location: Lynnwood, WA

Springland is beginning to be in a crisis. Our President was not replying to trades and our Mortality rating was a 1 for the year due to the amount of deaths. Also we lost over half of the entire countries money. A few people who were very involved in our civic mirror country planned for the election, campaigned for it, and tried to take the Presidency from the current President. Unfortunately, Alex, the person who was running for President, lost to the former Vice President in a smashing 21-8 defeat in votes. Our new President is not involved in our countries politics. The people who were trying to take the country from the apparent Fascist Party turned from politicians, to Revolutionists. The New Constitution is ready. The Crisis Vote is being prepared. However, the Revolutionists do not have the support of the people of Springland, who supported the former and current Administrations. The Revolution is not as easy as they hoped it would be but they hope with promises of a utopia and some Propaganda, they will be able to take the country.

WAKE UP CITIZENS

The time is now, the country of Flinterland has attacked us. Their ex prime minister (who holds a lot of power) has told an MP to Kermit suicide. This is an act of aggression against our country, we must protect our country and all that we believe in. Because of that I wish for our government to establish a military. This man has also personally accused me of adultery and gluttony.

WE CANNOT AFFORD FOR THIS BEHAVIOUR TO HAPPEN.

We must go to war against Flinterland!

Town Hall Tensions

Written By: Arin Olson, May 26th, 2017

Tensions were high today during the 2nd half of Toehio’s second annual Town council meeting. The first topic of discussion was brought up by citizen Adam, who made mention of his failed charity that was sabotaged by citizen Adam. The Charities intention was to “get some money from people to buy Jake a River”, but it was later discovered to be a ruse for citizen Adam to further his own political Agenda. Afterwards citizen Elliot was accused by multiple citizens, including Zoe, Jonas and Andrew, of purposefully skipping market day so that he did not have to follow the new law and give away free food to citizens who needed it. This was later found to be not true as an unaffiliated witness agreed with Elliot that he had not not meant to skip market day, but that instead he had suffered from illness including a high fever.

Citizen Elliot later takes up the stage in one of the most controversial debates in Toehioan History, accusing the the Government itself of conspiracy and corruption. Elliot stated that he planned to sue the Toehioan government for conspiring against him in his trial and for forcing the judge, Benson, to lie under oath, he demands $2000 and the return of his powerplants as compensation. Citizens Benson has joined forces with Elliot because they claimed that they were forced to lie about working with Elliot during his trial because they were under threat of impeachment. Benson also admitted to having worked with Elliot secretly during the trial, and Elliot agreed that he had worked with them. President Andrew claimed he had no knowledge of any government conspiracy, and that Benson was not forced by an outside party to do anything, citizen Zoe accused Benson of lying during the discussion because they had already lied during the trial. It was later discovered that citizen Emma(who was not present at the time) told Benson that they would be impeached if they did not say Elliot had bribed them.

Trial of the Week

Written By: Arin Olson, May 30th, 2017

Excitement stirred the air today as the trial was about to begin. The trial was between the prosecution, citizen Elliot (who’s representing himself in the trial), demanding an appeal of the previous court case where he lost his power plants. Elliot claims the Government conspired against him to take his power plant and forced one of the witnesses to lie under oath. Standing in the Government’s defense was citizen Emma who pleads innocent of any corruption or conspiracy.

Elliot claims the government (knowingly or unknowingly) allowed the Attorney General(Emma) to force his witness(Benson) to lie under oath during his trial, which caused him to lose his power plants.
Elliot calls his first witness, Benson, to the stand. Benson admits that their testimony in the previous trial was false and that they were pressured to say that they were working against Elliot by the Attorney General. Emma then cross-examines Benson, who admits that only around 12% of their testimony during the trial was truthful, which lead Emma to accuse Benson of lying on the stand.

Emma calls former judge, citizen Django, to the stand. Django agrees that Benson testimony did not affect the outcome of the trial. Elliot cross-examines Django and says that Django did not have any part in the decision of that trial, Elliot then calls Benson back to the stand to confirm what they had already said.
Emma calls President Andrew to the stand. Andrew states he and the government had no knowledge of any coercion with Benson or any conspiracy against Elliot. Elliot cross-examines Andrew and claims he has no idea what he is doing, which causes Emma to object, saying Elliot was taking things out of context.

Elliot claims Andrew and Django to be incompetent. Emma claims Benson can’t be trusted and that Elliot was a victim of Benson’s false testimony, saying he should be given his power plant back. After a voting in the Jury, Judge Toby’s verdict is that the previous trial’s verdict stands.

Toehio Declares War On Mookistan

Written By: Skylar Bull-Lyon, May 31th, 2017

Ladies, gentlemen, and citizens of Toehio, the time has come for us to rise up against our neighbors to the north, Moockistan. They are the true oppressors of the Toehioans, whether Big Toe or Small Toe, whether Gecko or Chromian. We must unite against the filthy, repugnant, unearthly Moockistanians.

First they took our chrome, then they ate our women, and finally they killed Bubba Duke Michelle. Poor Bubba, her wife still weeps every day for Bubba, may she rest in peace. Until Bubba’s wife, Joe Joe the Dancing Dude, stops using all of our tears, papers and eating our frozen milk. Her loss, our loss, cannot go unpunished.

Moockistan be warned we are coming for you, one day, you will learn why our slogan is Nailed it! You will know our icy hatred, you will feel the Chrome. Today, I, First Lady Skylar Bull Lyon, declares war on Moockistan.

First Lady Skylar B. Lyon Under Fire For Adultry Accusations

Written By: Toby Louther, May 31th, 2017

According to shocking new intel from several reliable sources, First Lady Skylar B. Lyon has been caught canoodling with a new man. Allegedly, she was seen in a park chatting amorously with a handsome fellow by the name of Dick Vanderslyke – some informants even state that they held hands.

Reportedly, Skylar and President Andrew had been having relationship troubles. The two had been appearing together in public less frequently and displaying less affection to each other. Purportedly, there have been fights. Ostensibly, there have been divorce papers drafted but, according to reliable sources, they have not yet been put into effect. Certainly after this alleged scandal they will be filed posthaste.
