Civic Mirror Learning Modules

These modules blow traditional textbooks out of the water, covering entire units of study unlike any other social studies resource out there.

Written by talented Civic Mirror educators, these modules are dynamic and organic (instead of linear and static), and provide students with rich, contextualized learning experiences that lead to deep understandings and piercing insights.

Inspired by “Understanding By Design” pedagogy, each module challenges students to complete a real world performance task, which creates the following benefits:

  1. Provide students with a purpose for reading the curricular content,
  2. Connect to the curricular content to the Civic Mirror experience, which helps students make better sense of it, and,
  3. Make learning relevant and fun.

For example, in the Market Forces and Decision Making module, students become economists who must use the principles of supply, demand, and other market forces to pre-estimate the value the properties in their Civic Mirror country in preparation for the game-starting auction. Or, in the Global Issues module, students become geographers who must rank their simulated country against the UN National Index, and then compare their country’s results to United States’ real-world rankings.

These modules are flexible, however. The curricular content is solid and can be used without the performance tasks or the full Civic Mirror experience.  This allows teachers to tailor them to their needs.
